Cars in German City Discovered Covered with Swastikas in Blood, Law Enforcement Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Local Law Enforcement
Officers reported they were alerted by a man who found a automobile in Hanau covered with red-colored substance

Roughly 50 vehicles have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to police.

Cars, exterior walls and mailboxes were marked, occasionally with swastikas, they announced in a release.

Law enforcement say they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday, when a resident discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued substance.

The substance had been applied in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they added.

Police then located numerous other marked cars and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.

Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.

Police report early analysis suggest the substance was most likely blood from a person.

"At present there remains no lead as to its source; authorities are presently not cognizant of any physical harm in association with the event," they stated.

Local authorities said they were working "to resolve the incident" and have appealed to the residents for information.

A high-ranking representative commented the incident made him stunned and had to be resolved promptly.

"This incident strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the right-wing violent incident in 2020," he wrote on a platform, referring to the murder of nine people by a assailant aiming at individuals of migrant background in 2020.
